It hurts your soul when you don't forgive others or forgive ourselves. Life is too short to hold grudges. Live each and every day for the moment you are in. You can never get back time that you wish you would have done differently. Know who you are, what your values are, and your goal for life (Hopefully to return to our Heavenly Father as a happy, loving eternal family). The past is gone and it's just as important to ask forgiveness as it is to give forgiveness.
