:: Missionaries Are Awesome ::

I don't have an update on what Cody has been doing this week for you, but I would like to express my feelings and some of the Church Leaders thoughts on missionaries.

It could go unsaid and everyone would know that of course a mother loves her son and missionary with all her heart.  I've been doing a lot of prayer and fasting to help me sort out certain aspects of my life.  One conclusion that I came to was that I was writing too much to Cody which made him focus less on his mission.  So now I just write in my journal so I can get my thoughts off my chest.  I love being a mother and that is good, but can also be bad.  I want to keep my kids forever because I love them so much!  But they are grown up now.  I need to allow them to grow up, become responsible and suffer the consequences of their actions.  They need to learn to stand on their own two feet.  Cody is sacrificing two years to serve the Lord.  He has become his own person and created his own person and is creating his own destiny.  By his efforts he will become a better person.  I'm so proud that he always keeps his chin up and works so hard.  Being a missionary is hard, tough, and exhausting.  They put themselves through this to serve the Lord and serve other people.  I think that it is awesome that he is serving the Lord with such great Faith!  Cody is an AWESOME man and has been an example to so many family and friends.  He amazes me all the time with his great faith and compassion to others.  I'm proud to be his mother and friend. I'm so grateful that in the pre-existence that he chose me to be his mother.  No one could ever ask for a better son!

H. David Burton: Compassion for others has always been a fundamental characteristic of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This modern-day humanitarian effort is a wonderful manifestation of the charity that burns within the souls of those whose hearts are tender and whose hands are ready to help. This selfless service truly demonstrates the pure love of Christ.

It is impossible for me to find the words to adequately express the sacred feelings burning within my soul. The simple word thanks seems almost trite. To each of you whose tender hearts and helping hands have eased the burdens of so many, please accept my heartfelt gratitude.

Thomas S. Monson: My brothers and sisters, we are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness—be they family members, friends, acquaintances, or strangers. We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us.
